5 reasons garlic is good for you

HerFamily

Today we came across a study which said that men should eat garlic because it makes them more attractive to women.

While we would have thought it would have been one of the foods to avoid in order to impress the opposite sex, it did get us thinking about the benefits of garlic.

As well as apparently making Himself more irresistible, it also…

… strengthens your immune system

Garlic is great for fighting all sorts of infections including coughs, colds and the flu. It helps to clear out your system, including your airways, which is particularly handy at this time of year when the kids tend to pick up bugs.

… improves the condition of your skin
This is one of many ingredients which is rich in antioxidants, making it good for your health and skin (we admit, it’s not so good for your breath). If you don’t like eating it, applying raw garlic to blemishes can also help.

… reduces high blood pressure
We have enough stress in our lives so if we eat something that helps that, we’re 100% on board. If you want to avoid high blood pressure, garlic is apparently the way to go. It is also known for keeping cholesterol down and helping to prevent heart disease.

… prevents cold sores
If you are prone to cold sores, which are common during the winter months, you might want to think about incorporating more garlic into your diet. Not only does it prevent them but it is known for getting rid of them quicker.

… kills bacteria

This food is so good at killing harmful bacteria that many believe it can prevent food poisoning. While we wouldn’t suggest abandoning healthy food handling techniques, it’s still good to know. It also gives us another reason to make Spaghetti Bolognese.
