3 of the coolest events in Dublin kick-off this weekend

What to do this weekend and the next and...

HerFamily

Weekends were made for switching off the phone, switching on the music and finding out what’s on to chill the beans, my friend. No one likes to stay in every weekend now, do they?

Bask in the aroma of some culinary delights in Fingal or watch a great Vampire mockumentary – you have choices:

Fingal County Show

When Tomorrow and the next day – June 27 & 28, 11am – 6pm

Where Newbridge House and Farm, Donabate, Co Dublin

Why you should go Fingal produces over one-third of the country’s fruit, veg and potatoes (FYI). If you are consumed with love for locally-produced artisan food and you’re after outdoor fun and frolics for the kids – in two words: Heaven. Found. An historic walled garden hosts 40 food stalls, yes, 40. Cookery demo’s with the theme “Creativity with Irish ingredients” will begin with a sausage-making competition followed by top chefs making recipes from scratch. Sweet.

Something for kids? Ireland’s “Most Groomed Cow” will be chosen at close of day and the activities for kids are epic. Equestrian delights, an arts and craft tent, an interactive learning zone, a Vintage parade and face-painting tops the entertainment for kids. Would I pass for under- 16? Don’t answer that. I’m so going.

How much €10 for an adult with two kids, €7.50 concession

The Sugar Club

When July 6th, 6pm

Where Sugar Club, 8 Lower Leeson Street, Dublin 2

Why you should go The students of Master of Science in Digital Film Production from Filmbase, are screening ‘The Light of Day’ in Dublin’s most creative hot-spot, the Sugar Club. The club always showcases the cream of the crop in Irish theatre, comedy, design, animation and film on any given week. If you want to be hip to the groove and get in on what’s new in the digital space – head on down. This film is so fun. It’s a mockumentary based on a failing film crew and a desperate attempt to adapt a graphic novel called ‘The First Bite is the Deepest’. It’s about Vampires. Classic. Can’t wait.

How much Free and the first 50 peeps get a free beer, too. Booking is essential though.

Hermitage Green Gig

When July 9th, 6pm

Where Leopardstown, Foxrock, Dublin 18

Why you should go They are such a good band. Their gigs have an infectious energy, if you’ve ever been in attendance, you will, like me, inevitably become a groupie. They are a strong bunch of vocalists and exude acoustic brilliance. They’ve toured to the ninth degree in five continents so far. Of their music offerings, a favourite on my playlist, “And the melodies Came” – will blow you away. They performed in Sydney Harbour on Australia Day; they are a big hit in the UK and their Irish fans are obsessed. You can expect cool tunes to get down to and your only instruction is to get up and dance. The are quite hot, too #justsaying

How much €15 for adult, €10 concession
