Mum furious after son’s nursery changed their menu to this

What would you do?

A mum has expressed her fury after finding out that her son’s nursery changed their menu with “no prior consent.”

The mum, Aimee, said that she recently received an email from the nursery saying that they were now only going to offer children vegan meals.

She wrote on parenting forum Netmums that she wanted to involve a government agency on the issue.

Aimee said:

“So we had an email this week from my sons nursery saying they are changing their food menu, little did I expect when I received the menu they have changed the whole menu to a vegan menu, no prior consent or questions put forward to the parents! Or the staff from what I can gather!

“This has really got my back up as I feel we are being railroaded in to making our children vegan with out a choice, no option of meat or fish! My family are a meat eating family, as many others in the nursery.”

The mum went on to say that she complained about the menu but was “shrugged off” by the manager, who explained the deputy manager made the change because she is vegan herself.

She also complained that the manager started “going on about carbon foot print [sic].”

Aimee also added that the nursery is located “on a farm which rears animals to kill to eat part of the natural cycle of life” – which is, of course, debatable.

She then asked whether she could “go to Ofsted” (a government body) about the menu.

While some parents agreed that a lot of children wouldn’t be happy with a vegan menu because many kids are picky eaters, others didn’t see the issue with the change.

“They are not forcing you to make your child vegan,” said one person.

“I wouldn’t have thought this was a big issue. As Emma says, you’re free to feed your child whatever you want for the rest of the evening/weekends,” said another.

Another mum made the point that vegan “doesn’t mean vegetables on a plate”, but can include variations of most popular meals including chilis, curries, and pastas.

However, another argued that she would be “concerned” about a lack of calcium in a vegan diet for a child.

So, what do you think? Would you contact Ofsted too?
