Bridesmaid went into labour on best friend’s wedding day – see what happened next

Trine Jensen-Burke

Brides are often reminded to remember that unexpected things sometimes can occur on their wedding day – despite all the meticulous planning beforehand.

But of all unexpected things that you think can happen (rings going missing, flowers being the wrong shade or the priest running late), your bridesmaid going into labour isn’t one that immediately comes to mind.

And yet that is exactly what happened to Australian bride, Bernadette Beahan, recently, who, only hours away from her wedding ceremony, received the call that one of her bridesmaids was in labour – five weeks early. And in fact, a mere hour after the call, bridesmaid Melissa White had given birth to a baby boy.

As you can imagine, dealing with surprises like this on your wedding day can in theory be enough to make any bride have panic attacks. But rather than going through her special day according to plan, Beahan moved her hair and make-up appointments so she could rush to the hospital and visit her friend and the new baby.

In fact, the whole bridal party made a special visit to the hospital and took the sweetest photos to commemorate this very special occasion.

Here is a snap wedding photographer Talitha Rice shared on Facebook – of the bride and her other bridesmaids in the car, on their way to meet little baby Hunter – and his brand new mama – in the local NICU:

This is what Beahan herself had to say: “There were a lot of mixed emotions when it all happened on the morning. Obviously I was super happy for her but also sad she couldn’t be there. When she called me, I think we both sat on the phone crying to each other for five minutes. I had a lot of joy and happiness for her and her partner but again it was sad she couldn’t be there getting ready with us.”

A couple of weeks later, baby Hunter is doing great, and is expected to come home from hospital soon:

“Melissa and Hunter are doing well”, Beahan says. “We’ve been on our honeymoon for the past two weeks, but I got to see before we left, but Hunter is doing really well, and will still be in hospital for another week. We now share the best date ever and it’s brought us closer together.”

All together now: AWHHHHH!
