Canadian athlete lets Twitter name her baby

Sophie White

Two-time Olympic gold medalist and Amazing Race star, Meaghan Mikkelson created the #NameMyBaby this year to choose her first child’s name.

The elated couple announced the much anticipated chosen name on Periscope (natch) and then on Twitter. Here is the adorable bundle of joy who received his moniker after over 3000 Twiiter users voted:

“It’s been a pretty crazy summer,” Mikkelson said. “At the start of it we didn’t know how it was going to turn out and how it was going to go, but I don’t think we would have found his name if it wasn’t for this.”

Presumably they would have come up with something, hopefully…

“For Scott and I, Calder will always be the baby that Canada named,” said the delighted new mother.

The name is apt as Mikkelson is a hockey player and The Calder Cup is a national hockey award that Mikkelson’s own father won in 1971.

Other contenders for the child’s name included Molson, Gretzky, Ziam, Flash and Stryder. Personally we are STUNNED that Flash didn’t make the cut. That’s what you get for asking Twitter to name your baby I suppose.
