Call the Midwife never fails to make us cry
The wonderful Call the Midwife returned to our TV screens last night with an emotional Christmas episode.
The BBC drama always makes us cry like babies, but last night’s episode took things up a notch.
Curling up on the sofa to watch the historical drama is exactly what we needed after a hectic day of visiting our loved ones.
Last night’s episode taught us to never give up on life, even if it feels like things will never get better.
During last night’s episode, Dr. Turner confirmed that Sister Monica Joan was suffering from depression.
The sister couldn’t help but feel lost and told her fellow sisters and midwives that this would be her last Christmas.
The ladies of Nonnatus House were gathered around the table when she shared some devastating thoughts.
“This forthcoming Christmas will be my last upon this Earth.
“God has assured me of this grace. I shall not see another festive season this side of heaven and I accept his will.”

Sister Monica Joan struggled to find joy in the holidays, but her Nonnatus House family refused to let the depression take her from them.
Like many others who suffer from mental health issues, finding the Christmas spirit can feel near impossible.
However, her loved ones helped her realise that joy is always there, sometimes you just need help finding it.
Viewers were left in floods of tears when Sister Julienne and co. helped recreate a memory from Sister Monica Joan’s childhood.
The scene where her face lights up when she sees the Victorian Christmas tableau said so much.
It reminded viewers that we should never lose hope, no matter how dark things feel. The holidays can be difficult for so many but we should never give up on finding the joy.
As one viewer said, “Well, it wouldn’t be Christmas without my Call the Midwife tears.”
Watching the show on December 25th will always be one of our favourite Christmas traditions.
