The Board of Dental Examiners in the US has launched an investigation after a baby girl died after a trip to a dentist in North Austin.

Fox7 reports that Betty Squier took her 14-month-old daughter, Daisy Lynn Torres, to Austin Children’s Dentistry on Tuesday morning for a routine cavity filling.

The dentist then told Squier that her little girl actually had six cavities (in her eight teeth), as opposed to two, and recommended putting her under anaesthetic.

She told Fox7: “It wasn’t that long until they called me back there saying that there were complications, that she wasn’t breathing and she had gone into cardiac arrest.”

The Emergency Medical Services were called and Daisy Lynn was rushed to hospital but she died approximately two hours later.

The cause of death is not yet known. Meanwhile, a fundraising page has been set up to help the family cover the funeral expenses.
