Jools Oliver Defends THAT Pants Pic Because These Are The Ridiculous Times We Live In

Sophie White

A few days ago Jools Oliver posted a pretty innocuous snap of some nice trousers to her Instagram feed and as is the way these days, managed to ‘body-shame’ some people.

Her original post was one many of us mums could relate to – that feeling of normality slowly returning after the chaos of having a baby inhabiting our bodies for nine months.

“Thank you to the fab girls @aceandjig finally ‘almost’ fitting into these gorgeous trousers, so comfy post little baby and beyond @nadianarain think we have finally found our perfect trousers.”

The pic was criticised by some because apparently by merely acknowledging that her body is returning to its pre-baby shape she was putting pressure on new mums to lose weight.
Hard eye-roll.

41-year-old Jools became a mum for the fifth time in August when she gave birth to baby River.

Despite the post receiving over 13,000 likes, a few women took to the comments section to voice their displeasure with the pants post.

“I am currently pregnant with my second baby,” wrote one mum. “Every minute of every day I’m scrutinising my weight. Pictures like this by naturally slim women do not help!”

“Shouldn’t you be more concerned about bonding with your child rather than how quickly you fit back into your jeans?” added another.

Jools has since decided to defend the pants pic:

“It was merely a shout-out to the lovely girls who sent me the trousers nothing more I hardly ever put pictures up of myself and certainly not a ‘selfie’,” she wrote.

“I am confident with my body before, during and after pregnancy and totally get that things don’t go back to normal for at least six months to a year, if at all and after five babies, I should know.”

“As for bonding with my baby… I feel no need to address this it’s ridiculous.”

“So please next time if I irritate you just unfollow me it was just meant to be a nice pic of a pair of good trews.”

Well said, Jools. Brava.
