A mum has sparked debate after talking about the fact that her two-year-old daughter has participated in and won a number of beauty pageants.

Jas Sullivan told This Morning presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield that she made the decision to enter her after she copied her pout one day.

“To me she was always a little performer. She was shining, she was always a little star,” she explained.

“She started pouting, she started blowing kisses… She just copied me one day, when I was pouting for a picture.”

Sullivan also revealed that she had spent thousands on clothes and beauty products for Minnie.

She said: “Everything should go on your child. This is all for her. I don’t go out. I work hard and all my money goes on her and she likes doing it. If she didn’t like doing it, we wouldn’t be doing it…

“She does really enjoy it. It’s not often I have to sit and bribe her. She does ask for makeup. She does ask for her nails to be painted.”

When questioned about the opinion that pageants sexualise children, Sullivan said that it “throws her” before adding that, unlike other situations, “this is a controlled environment.”

She added: “She’s just a normal two-year-old child but she also enjoys this. It’s like any other hobby. She does ballet. She does tap.”

Her interview did spark some debate on Twitter. Check out some of the posts below…
