The show’s creator, animator Brian Cosgrove, was at Buckingham Palace yesterday to receive an OBE.

William met him and told him that he’d “grown up on” his cartoons, which also include Count Duckula and The Wind In The Willows.

“I said that it was a pleasure meeting him and he said that it was a pleasure to meet me too,” Cosgrove said.

“It’s quite surreal. [William] told me he was trying to get his son George into [the show] but they’re not on at the moment, the series we did, they sold it to Canada.

“It’s 30, 40 years ago since we made them, so for people to still know them. it really is quite touching.”

Continuing, Cosgrove admitted that he was very nervous before going to the palace receive the royal honour.

“I’m not quite sure what one expects, to come down and do something like this.

“My wife and I spent quite a lot of time saying, ‘I wish it was over’, because of the nervousness of it.”
