Starbucks Has (Finally) Revealed This Year’s Red Cups (And It’s Officially Christmas!)

Trine Jensen-Burke

Nothing says ‘Christmas is coming’ like being able to drink your morning latte from a red rather than a white paper cup, no?

And let’s face it, between the dipping temperatures, the John Lewis ad and now the red cups being back, we are officially declaring holiday season being upon us.

And this year, Starbucks is giving us a whopping 13 different options for your gingerbread latte (or peppermint mocha or whatever your holiday tipple of choice might be).

The Seattle-born coffee chain has actually released a red holiday cup every year since 1997, but this is the first time that the company has released multiple varieties in the same year. Starting today, on November 10th, Starbucks customers in 75 countries will get red cups featuring one of 13 different designs crafted by customers around the world.

Last year, when Starbucks featured a minimalist red cup, the company invited customers to add their own decorations and post the results on social media. The marketing team then whittled down their favorites and asked them to mail in their cups to see if their design could be replicated tens of thousands of times.

The winning designs all feature white marker on a red cup, and have wintry elements like snowflakes, Christmas lights, candy canes, and Santa’s sleigh. The winning artists come from countries like the U.S., South Korea, Russia, and Indonesia.

All but one design comes on the red cup itself; one is on the clear cup designated for cold drinks, in case you live somewhere hot and need your coffee iced. (Unsurprisingly, maybe, that designer hails from Los Angeles…)

Happy Christmas drinking, you guys!
