Speaking about the tragedy, Cllr. Mary Howard described Ms. Carcaterra as “a very special lady” adding: “I recall with fondness the day she informed me that not only was she pregnant but she was carrying triplets, who are now five months old.

‘Since hearing the news of Gemma’s passing this morning, my thoughts and prayers are with her family and her extended circle of friends.”

Ms Carcaterra is survived by her children, heartbroken husband Colm, her father Rob, mother Rosa and brother James.

Her funeral service will take place today, Monday, in St Mary’s Church, Ogonnelloe, to arrive at 12 noon. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Limerick Maternity Hospital Neo Natal Ward c/o of any family member.
