A woman in Australia has given birth to one of the country’s biggest babies.
According to reports, first-time mum Breanna Sykes welcomed a baby weighing more than 13 pounds on Saturday evening.
She was apparently told that the new arrival was going to be big but neither she nor doctors expected him to be the equivalent of a 3-month-old.
Breanna told 9 News Perth: “One of the doctors said ‘this is the biggest baby I’ve ever seen in my 15-year career.’ It’s pretty amazing.”
Ziad Kadic had to be delivered by Caesarean section as he would have broken his mother’s pelvis otherwise.
She explained: “They said he’s just not going to fit, if I try and push the baby he would break my pelvis so I had to get a caesarean. But he’s here safe and happy and that’s what matters.”
The mother and child are expected to be released from hospital on Tuesday.
