Thinking About Leaving Kids In The Car Unattended? Watch This First

Sharyn Hayden

In the midst of every heatwave, we hear worrying reports of people leaving kids and dogs locked in cars while they go about their business.

No matter how much media attention these upsetting stories get – or no matter how many fatalities occur as a result of leaving little beings trapped in soaring heat unattended – it still happens.

Heatwave aside, the risks of leaving our kids alone in a locked and unsupervised car for any prolonged period of time are huge.

We only have to delve into our deepest, darkest souls to imagine the potential horrors that could befall our little ones while we’re not there – where we should be – to protect them.

But back to the heatwave.

In order to give you a sense of perspective when it comes to just how hot a car can get while static, you need to watch this video.

Australian celebrity chef Matt Moran created an experiment to show parents the kind of temperatures they and their kids are dealing with in their family cars.

He planted a piece of raw meat in a car at Bondi beach and filmed it’s progress over the course of an hour and a half.

It’s a simple must-watch:

Parents – no matter what, if your kids are asleep and cranky, wrecking your head and you can’t bear to take them to the shop with you, you think you’ll be ‘just a minute’ – please, in this heat, just open up that car door, unbuckle their seat belt and take them with you.

The potential alternative is far worse than any slight short-term inconvenience.
