Ever felt sexually aroused whilst breastfeeding? You’re not alone

An article exploring breastfeeding has revealed that over a third of women have felt sexually aroused whilst doing it.

Fusion reports that a recent study found that between 33 and 50 per cent of mothers have felt aroused whilst breastfeeding their child.

In other words, it’s common.

It’s also not something one can control according to the article which quotes lactation consultant Susan Condon.

She says: “There is nothing to be embarrassed about… It’s a normal physiological response to lactation hormones. Breastfeeding feels good! If it didn’t, very few mothers would do it.”

Nurse Mary Jo Podgurski reiterated this sentiment, explaining: “It’s not a woman’s choice, it’s how we are wired. But if a woman knows in advance how this works, she’ll be a little more comfortable with it.”

Apparently, it stems from the fact that one of the hormones that is released during breastfeeding – oxytocin – is also present during sexual activity and orgasm.
