There are some gems in Scotland’s most popular baby names list

HerFamily

Every day, we come across a new batch of baby names that we love. Today, we’re taking inspiration from Scotland.

The National Records of Scotland, quoted in The Independent, have revealed the most popular baby names for this year and while most of them overlap with ones you’d get here, there are a few hidden gems.

We’ll start with the boys… Jack claimed the top spot (not surprising) followed by Oliver, James, Lewis and Alexander.

Also included in the top 10 were Charlie, Logan (which we adore), Lucas (another good one) and Harris (which you wouldn’t hear that much).

It was a tie in tenth with Daniel, Finley (seems to be making a comeback) and Jacob all common choices.

Now for the girls – another overlap – Emily was the most popular name. Sophie, Olivia, Isla (another one to take note of) and Ava also fared well.

The other five that made the cut include Jessica, Amelia, Ella, Lucy and Lily – like we said, not entirely different to what Irish parents opted for but all lovely nonetheless.

The records did show however that more and more people are going for unusual monikers with 1,977 boys and 2,714 girls given unique names.
