This Tinkerbelle Doll Has Gone Viral For a Fantastic Reason…

HerFamily

Images of a Tinkerbelle doll with a cochlear implant have gone viral.

The pictures have been shared on Facebook thousands of times with a number of parents asking where they can get them.

Unfortunately they are not for sale to the public, but they do represent a need for such products.

You see, these dolls were created by #ToyLikeMe as a thank-you to those who backed their crowd fund to build a website to celebrate disability representation in toys.

#ToyLikeMe was set up by a journalist called Rebecca Atkinson and the company is planning to produce more makeovers of Tinkerbelle which will go on auction to the public.

Speaking about this particular doll, Atkinson said: “The Tinkerbelle dolls have particularly resonated with parents.

“When you marry a mainstream figure such as Tinkerbelle with the minority experience of wearing a cochlear implant, you create a very powerful image that speak volumes to children about inclusion.

“The fact that something as simple as a creating a model cochlear implant for a Disney figure shows the depth of the need for this kids to be included in the mainstream.

“These consumers are hungry because the toy market has never fed them before.”

We think this is a fantastic idea – let us know your thoughts in the Facebook comments or on Twitter (@HerFamilydotie).
