Drinking a lot of green tea could impact your fertility

HerFamily

Green tea is often hailed for its health benefits but a new study is now suggesting that the hot beverage could have a negative effect on fertility.

Researchers at the University of California-Irvine found that excessive consumption of certain antioxidants found in the drink impacted on the reproduction and development of the fruit fly population.

While no such study has been done involving humans, it does establish a link between excessive or regular consumption of green tea and a reduction in reproduction in females and males.

However, it is important to note that the examination did involve fruit flies and that it concerned a high dose of said antioxidants.

As with everything, and as common sense suggests, experts recommend that you consume green tea in moderation.

The study was published in the Journal of Functional Food.
