Mum wants to give daughter’s birthday gifts to her again for Xmas

She received an amount of backlash.

A mum has caused controversy online by asking whether she could re-wrap some of the gifts her daughter received for her birthday and give them to her again for Christmas.

According to her, she doesn’t think the toddler would know the difference anyway.

The unnamed mum posted the query to parenting site Mumsnet, where she was met with some less-than-impressed responses.

She wrote:

“We threw DD (dear daughter) a 3rd birthday party for 15 kids and she got a lot of toys, some of which I put upstairs in the attic (because I wanted to bring her out a new toy each week).

“Now Christmas is coming up and I am wondering AIBU (am I being unreasonable) to rewrap some of the toys she opened for her birthday to give them to her for Christmas?

“Will she remember unwrapping them the first time?”

Not the worst idea in the world, surely.

However, users on Mumsnet were not all that delighted with the suggestion.

“There ought not to be one rule of fairness for adults and another for children,” said one user. “The presents are your daughter’s and she should have them for her birthday as they were gifted to her.”

“I think it’s mean too,” said another. “Would you want others to take things you already own and wrap them for your birthday or Christmas?”

One person went with a simple: “No, they are not from you.”

While most people seemed to agree that the toddler wouldn’t realise the gifts were any different, the issue most people had was that the mum was acting as if she had bought the gifts when in reality, other people had.

The mum has not yet responded to any of the comments left beneath her post.
